Airedale Hospital & Community Charity is delighted to announce that it has received generous grant funding from The Randal Charitable Foundation to purchase a state‑of‑the‑art Quick Lung Simulator – a breakthrough training tool that will transform how clinical teams manage complex respiratory emergencies.
The Quick Lung Simulator will support the training and development of staff across Airedale, enabling them to practice treating ventilated patients in real time, within a safe virtual environment. Using highly responsive technology and advanced artificial intelligence, the simulator replicates rapidly changing lung conditions, mirroring the challenges encountered when treating critically ill patients.

The Quick Lung Simulator will also take centre stage at Airedale’s first large‑scale Mechanical Ventilation Expert Workshop, to be held in Leeds with delegates attending from across the UK.
This technology marks the final phase of Airedale’s implementation of AI‑enabled ventilators, paving the way for Airedale to become the first fully operational AI‑led ventilation unit in the UK. This positions the Trust at the forefront of respiratory innovation and strengthens its ability to attract practitioners keen to work with advanced ventilation technologies.
Martin Scott, Critical Care Nurse said – “Quick Lung is a fast, highly responsive simulator that mirrors the physiology of a deteriorating or recovering lung with remarkable accuracy. Because our ventilators use AI to adapt to changing lung conditions, we need simulation technology that can match this complexity. This tool will better prepare our teams for real scenarios, ensuring the best possible care for our most critically ill patients. We are overwhelmed with the support of Airedale Hospital & Community and The Randal Foundation for helping to make this a reality.”
By providing realistic, immersive training, the simulator is expected to improve patient outcomes by reducing ventilation days, shortening hospital stays, and lessening the psychological effects associated with prolonged sedation.
