To try and spread some joy on what can be a difficult day for those with relatives and children in the hospital, the wonderful Ward 17 nurses and team at the Airedale Hospital & Community Charity helped to organise a beautiful Mother’s Day Tea for the families being cared for within Airedale Hospital’s Children’s Ward.

Mums, carers and children alike enjoyed a delicious spread of scones, jam, cream and tea that were all kindly donated by the staff at Peonies Café in Cross Hills.

Kelly Smith, co-owner of Peonies Café, said:

“I have experienced being a parent of a child on the children’s ward and know what wonderful, caring work they do, so we were delighted to be able to donate.”

The tea was accompanied by an afternoon of crafting activities which included capturing the children’s footprints in paint to create keepsake cards and artwork for the special people in their lives to cherish for years to come.

Maria Barrick, Health Play Specialist at Airedale, commented:

“It’s important that children and their families don’t miss out on important events when they are in hospital. The families were so grateful for the afternoon tea, and being able to serve it on proper cake stands made it feel even more special. We would like to thank Peonies Café for their generous donation of scones and loan of the cake stands.”
