On 27 August, Airedale Hospital Senior Sister Cheryl Szulhan held a memorial birthday party for what would have been her son Jack’s 2nd birthday, raising £850 for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity’s Emergency Department Appeal.

The event was held at Sunnybank Social Club in Silsden, and involved activities for all the family, from crafts, face painting and musical bingo, to drinks and live music, and a raffle with over £1000 worth of prizes.

Cheryl Szulhan, who works in Airedale Hospital’s Emergency department, said:

“The day was a true success, the community came together to provide a fun filled day for our everyone in memory of our baby boy Jack.

“Doing this for what was meant to be Jack’s 2nd Birthday was a positive distraction for us whilst trying to survive yet another first.

“We are truly grateful to Airedale Hospital and Community Charity & Nightingales Nursery Staff for their arts & crafts, Silsden Allstars Majorettes for their displays, our children’s entertainer for planning and facilitating the games, our face painters for brightening the place up, our balloon modeller for providing the children swords and wands, and our local live acts on the night.

“Without these individuals donating their time as a gesture of good will and supporting us through our grieving process, we would never have got the amount of interest on the day and raised this amount of money.”
