Sutton in Craven Cricket Club have donated £500 to Airedale Hospital & Community Charity following their annual charity match in 2023. And, for the third year in a row have donated 24 cricket sets to Airedale NHS Foundation Trusts Children’s Unit at Christmas.

The donations began in 2021 when club member Stuart Todd came up with the idea to donate cricket sets and selection boxes to the unit for children who would be spending time in hospital over the Christmas period.

In 2022, the club held its first annual charity match after several cancelled events due to the COVID-19 pandemic and donated the proceeds to the Children’s Unit. In 2023 a further £500 was raised for the charity through the now annual charity match.

Stuart Todd commented: “This is one of our busiest days of the year and it’s fantastic to see so many people from the local community step up and volunteer.

“As a club we have supported Airedale Charity for a few years now, and it gives us a great feeling to be able to give back to such an important charity located so close to our ground.

“We’d like to thank everyone that supports Sutton-in-Craven Cricket Club throughout the year, giving us the opportunity to give back. We look forward to supporting Airedale Charity and the patients of Airedale in the future.”

Jodie Hearnshaw, Charity Manager said: “Sutton CC are fabulous supporters of our charity. They haven’t missed an opportunity to give to our Children’s Unit over the last few years. The cricket sets are a brilliant idea for children to stay active and entertained. These fantastic donations help us to support our patients, their families and our colleagues. We are so grateful for the club’s continued support.”

Funds raised for Airedale Hospital and Community Charity help the improvement of staff and patient wellbeing at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and the surrounding community, providing items and services that are above and beyond NHS provision.
