Young patients at Airedale Hospital Children’s Ward were surprised with an array of Easter treats donated by generous supporters of Airedale Hospital and Community Charity on Easter Sunday.
Local businessman Dominic Hernon began the day’s festivities by distributing over 50 chocolate eggs to Ward 17, with the hope of spreading Easter joy to those staying in the hospital over the weekend.
The afternoon continued with a visit from a team of keen motorcyclists from across the Aire Valley who delivered more Easter eggs and a cash donation of £360.
Staff at the hospital also provided a selection of Easter-themed activities throughout the ward, including an egg hunt in the playroom, designing Easter baskets and baking chocolate crispy cakes.
Dominic Hernon, charity supporter, said:
“It was an honour to meet some of the very brave children on the ward. Airedale Hospital has been amazing assisting myself and my family over the years, so it’s a pleasure to assist the Airedale Hospital & Community Charity in any way possible.
“A big thank you to UK Global Leeds, Thomas & Chris Thurling and Bradford City AFC who helped to make this donation possible.”
Maria Barrick, play specialist at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“We were really overwhelmed by the generosity shown to the ward this Easter. We received lots of deliveries of eggs and items such as Easter bonnets which we were able to give out to patients and their siblings across the whole hospital. The patients, families and staff loved seeing (and hearing) all the motorbikes when they brought their deliveries.”
Aimee Lindsay from Airedale Hospital & Community Charity, said:
“We are very grateful to the supporters of the charity who make it possible for us to provide these special experiences to our patients and staff.
“It is important to us that patients and their families don’t feel like they’re missing out on holidays and festivities when spending time in hospital. A big thank you to everyone who has donated to our charity this Easter.”
