Airedale Hospital and Community Charity, the official NHS charity for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, visited five local schools, which are all in the Trust’s catchment area, to deliver an act of kindness on World Book Day (3 March).
They visited St. Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Steeton Primary School, Eastburn Junior and Infant School, Sutton Community Primary School, and Greatwood Community Primary School.
The charity team presented each of the schools with 10 health-related books, including books about how to look after your health and wellbeing, what to expect when you visit a hospital, how the body works, and books about feelings and diversity.
In October 2021, Airedale Charity launched its ‘Acts of Kindness’ (AOK) campaign with an aim to spread kindness and positivity within the Trust and in the local community. The charity took the opportunity on World Book Day to give back to local schools and young people and surprise the teachers and students with an act of kindness.
Jodie Hearnshaw, charity manager at Airedale Hospital and Community Charity, says:
“We are delighted we could take our AOK campaign on the road for a very special day. Our local schools and young population are hugely important to us. We wanted to extend an act of kindness and show them how special they are. We love World Book Day at Airedale Charity and giving out books on being healthy and understanding what it is like in a hospital has been a fantastic experience. It was great to see the children dressed up as their favourite characters.”
Mrs Atkinson, deputy headteacher at St Anne’s Primary School, says:
“Thank you to Airedale Charity for joining our special World Book Day worship and for the lovely act of kindness. The books are already on our rainbow bookshelf!”
Mrs Yeoman, headteacher at Greatwood Community Primary School, says:
“We had the most wonderful surprise when Airedale Charity visited us with a random act of kindness. They donated some stunning books for our school library, all linked to the human body, germs, health and wellbeing. We already love reading them!”
